The Madison-Virgil school system (USD 386) employs more than 50 people at both, the elementary and high school. Pre-school & Kindergarten are also available to area residents. The Madison-Virgil school system built a new outdoor sports complex south of the high school which was completed in 2003. The first home football game played on the new field was on September 5th, 2003. The school also has built a new addition which houses a new south entrance to the high school, new bathrooms and a new gym.
The Madison Public Library is open five days a week and has a wide variety of books, periodicals, and resource material. A Community Building that includes the Library is located by the city park. The Madison City Park offers two ball diamonds, a playground, shelter house, electrical outlets and a new swimming pool, with an additional ball park on west Lincoln Street at the top of the hill. Just south of Madison is a beautiful city lake that is both the town's source of water and recreation. Here you can find new camper hook-ups, a new bathroom, fishing and boating. The Madison Golf Club offers a nine hole grass green course and club house with golf cart rental available. Lazy D Outfitters, southeast of Madison offers many hunting excursion packages.
